modern (think it was released just last year!) Maquia is a EPIC fantasy anime movie about immortal beings (sort of like elves) dwindling and being persecuted.sort of like gelfling. Has some awesome voice actors eg Christopher Lee, Angela Lansbury Realises she is the last of her kind and goes on a journey to find out wtf happened - kind of like Jen in Dark Crystal. Animated, but The Last Unicorn - another great dark 80's fantasy film, very atmospheric and melancholic with the sad theme. Animated, but The Secret of Nimh is great dark 80's film with fantasy elements, very atmospheric and melancholic Lord of the Rings Peter Jackson trilogy ultimate fantasy fix Incase you for some reason haven't seen it. Pans Labyrinth Dark, dark fantasy film, beautiful.

The wedding party scene is very Dark Crystal Weird modern day opening scene, the rest takes place in a 1800's type of setting, very Brother's Grimm various tales of wolves are woven together. 'The Company of Wolves' is a beautiful dark fantasy horror film, it's dreamlike and haunting, uses puppets. Return to Oz is a terrifying dark fantasy kids horror film which truly 'goes there' like the Dark Crystal did The Neverending Story, dark atmospheric fantasy with puppets. Willow is a atmospheric fantasy movie also 80's, very good Trivia - Brian froud the artist, and Wendy Froud the puppet maker met on the set of Dark Crystal and married - both returned to work on Labyrinth their son Toby Froud plays the labyrinth baby. Labyrinth of course looks a lot like Dark Crystal being from the jim henson company.though it has a comical tone. Jim Henson's daughters were involved - and they made Age of Resistance! My personal opinion, its creepier than Dark Crystal. All the episodes are good, in particular would also recommend 'The True Bride' and Hans my Hedgehog'. Episodes last about 20 minutes.In particular, episode 'The Soldier and Death' is considered by many to be Jim Henson's finest work with huge critical acclaim and won 2 emmy's.
